This module first reviews the human body from the perspective of a biomechanical structure in order to understand the challenges associated with seating. Common postural deformities are also reviewed. Postural tendancies associated with various types of disabilities and functional requirements are discussed and illustrated. Procedures for for postural assessment are demonstrated through the use of the case studies.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this module the learner will be able to describe;
- three movements of the pelvis and associated longterm postural deformities
- four sections of the spine and associated deformities
- two common postures of the human body and their associated functional purpose
