Georgie Blackburn serves as the vice president of government relations and legislative affairs for Blackburn’s, a multi-faceted home medical equipment, supply and pharmaceutical regional provider, headquartered in Tarentum, Pennsylvania. She has been associated with the homecare industry since 1978 and during this time has developed Blackburn’s Rehabilitation Equipment Division and served as its DME/Rehab division manager and a RESNA credentialed ATS. She served as Blackburn’s compliance director from 1999 through July, 2007 and has been the rehab team leader for the Jurisdiction A Medicare Advisory Council since 2004.

Description

This 4-hour online course is the FIRST NATIONAL PROGRAM on MAE documentation. It includes 5 video lectures with Power Point presentations that walk through the new Medicare Coverage Policies and what is required to document a patient’s need for MAE. This seminar is particularly useful for Physicians and Therapists to better understand how existing clinical documentation standards can reflect what Medicare will look for as evidence in a post-payment audit of suppliers. Specific case examples of assessment and documentation are provided. Attendees can also download sample templates to use in their practice. The course has also been approved for 0.4 CEUs and 0.4 Physician CMEs.

Learning Objectives

Upon attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

List two rationales for Medicare’s need to have developed new coverage policies for powered mobility devices (PMDs)
List two indications or contraindications for each of the six categories of PMDs.
List the seven key elements that need to be documented in the medical record related to the prescription for a PMD.
List two roles and responsibilities for each of the physicians, therapists, and suppliers in the provision and documentation process for PMDs.
