Jack McAlpine is currently a rehabilitation technology supplier for Blackburn’s Physicians Pharmacy. He started working in the rehabilitation field in 1981 specializing in seating and wheeled mobility and environmental controls. He is a RESNA Assistive Technology Professional and has his bachelors of science from Penn State University.

Description

Environmental Control Units (also referred to as Electronic Aides to Daily Living) are specialized assistive technologies designed to enable an individual to operate many household appliances and electronics if he or she cannot use the standard controls. Within the presentation specific ECU technologies will be discussed as well as displayed along with case-based learning of what has worked well with specific clients and diagnoses.

Learning Objectives

Upon attending this lecture/seminar, participants will be able to:

Identify at least two main components of an Environmental Control System
Recognize three of the Commercially Available Environmental Control Units
Differentiate between Stand Alone and Integrated ECU Systems
Characterize the common Inputs and Outputs of an Environmental Control System
Identify at least two key factors to consider when recommending an Environmental Control System
