Michael Bastien, CLVT, ATP
Michael Bastien is the program director for the Visual Impairment, Assistive Technology and Wheelchair programs in the Eastern Colorado Healthcare System (Denver VAMC). He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (now Salus University) with a Masters in Low Vision Rehabilitation and has worked in higher education, state and federal government and the private sector. He spends his free time playing in the mountains of Colorado and wherever else his travels take him.

Description

Assistive Technology geared for individuals that have low vision or are blind typically fall under the magnification, auditory and tactile categories. This training will provide an overview of common technologies falling under these categories as well definitions of low vision, legal blindness and etiologies of eye diseases and conditions.

Learning Objectives

Upon attending this seminar, participants will be able to:

Understand the differences between low vision and legal blindness.
Identify three common visual impairments.
Describe three different types of Assistive Technology utilized by individuals with visual impairments.
