AT CERT 2020 is now underway. If you have questions about the current course, or if you would like to be kept in contact about future AT CERT offerings, please email Karl Kemmerer at kak216@pitt.edu.

General Course Information:

The Assistive Technology CERT course is an online training program that provides individuals with a comprehensive understanding of assistive technology (AT) and how it can be applied to your field of practice. Everyone with an interest in AT is encouraged to participate, including clinicians, healthcare providers, consumers, researchers, suppliers, manufacturers, policymakers, and more!

The course also assists in preparation for the RESNA Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) and Seating & Mobility Specialist (SMS) certification exams. The University of Pittsburgh does not provide certification, nor do we administer the exam, but the material covered in the AT CERT course covers many aspects of the RESNA exams.

The course includes two parts. The first consists of online education modules and the second is the “Deep Dive,” a hands-on training session in Pittsburgh, PA. The Deep Dive covers all course material and allows participants to interact with case studies and ask questions. Tentative detail for the 2020 Deep Dive can be found below:

Deep Dive 2020 Details

The full course is certified to provide 4.4 Continuing Education Units, or 44 total contact hours. These credits are provided by the University of Pittsburgh’s department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology, Continuing Education, within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. Participants will receive two separate CEU certificates: one for 3.2 credits for the online portion of the course, and another for 1.2 credits for the Deep Dive event.

Each module covers a different subject within assistive technology, including the following topics:

How is The Course Administered?

Each assistive technology topic will be accompanied by an online module including online webinars, downloadable hand-outs, and links to additional reading and resources. Students can review modules on their own time, and every two weeks the course will convene via conference-call recitation to review material. Students will be assessed with quizzes following modules and completion and presentation of a model client case study based on one of the assistive technology topics.

Currently, the course runs from January to May. Students participate in conference-call recitations every other week leading up to the two-day Deep Dive in mid-May. This format allows us to deliver all the course content in a time-efficient format to maximize student engagement.

At the Deep Dive, students will have the opportunity to work hands-on with the assistive technology discussed during the course, and will work with a model client to perform a live case study assessment.

Cost of the course is $1,199.00. This covers all academic material, required text, and attendance at the Deep Dive.
